3 Day Rigging for the Entertainment Industry course 

in association with Total Training 

3 days of intensive practical rigging training on a purpose-built steel structure. Suitable for novices as well as those with more experience of Rigging

Course runs 10:00 – 17:00 each day

Course Outline

  • Opening multiple choice quiz.
  • Legislation including risk assessment
  • LOLER (1998) and the Work at Height Regulations (2005)
  • Principles of lifting
  • Safe systems of work
  • Work at height using Personal Fall Protection Systems
  • Pre-use checks to PFPS
  • Basic rigging and ropework, the ‘open basket’ and choke hitches
  • Marking out
  • Rigging motors with steels, roundslings, shackles, O rings, STAC and clutch chains
  • Using electric chain hoists
  • Using trusses correctly as simple spans and in a box configuration
  • Simple load calculations for slings and trusses
  • Terminating steel wire ropes
  • Secondary suspensions, theory and practice
  • Inspection of lifting equipment
  • Repeat of opening multiple choice quiz

On completion of the course trainees will have:

  • Course notes and additional printed information
  • A numbered certificate of attendance relating to the syllabus completed
  • A personal record of training
  • An appreciation of their legal duties
  • A basic knowledge of how to use equipment safely in slinging and entertainment industry lifting operations
  • An understanding of the principles of working at height using personal fall protection system

What equipment do I need for the course?

We provide everything required except suitable work clothes and footwear.

Are there any entry requirements?

There are no entry requirements for this course.

What is the trainer ratio?

The Trainer to Trainee ratio for this course is 6:1.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

You must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the course.

Do I need to send you any additional information?

Dietary and access requirements are covered on the booking form however if you have any health conditions or feel there is anything we should be aware of before the course please let us know.

How do I get course information once I have booked?

Joining Instructions will be emailed to you 3 days before the course is due to start. Please make sure you have added training@riggingteam.com to your safe sender list.

Will the course make me a ‘qualified’ rigger?

Attending a training course cannot make you competent or qualified but it will identify areas you need to work on. In the UK, employers must provide adequate training for work activity where there are risks to your (or anyone else’s) health or safety as a result of the work you do. Undertaking training with Rigging Team may help to satisfy that requirement.

How can I become a ‘qualified’ rigger?

Currently, the only qualification for entertainment rigging in the UK is the National Rigging Certificate (NRC) awarded by PLASA.
